Meal Preparation & Nutrition

Nutritious meals prepared at home, including special diets and texture-modified foods.

Good food is about more than nutrition — it’s comfort, culture, and one of life’s daily pleasures. When cooking gets hard, meals get skipped. We help keep good, familiar food on the table.

Who it’s for

  • Seniors who struggle to shop, cook, or remember to eat
  • People on special or therapeutic diets
  • Anyone with swallowing difficulties who needs texture-modified food

How we provide care

We plan and prepare meals in the home, following dietary needs and the person’s own tastes — including cultural and family dishes. We can prepare texture-modified foods for swallowing needs, following the direction of the person’s health care team.

At mealtimes we can sit with the person, offer help if needed, and encourage fluids to prevent dehydration. Eating together often means eating better.

Keeping an eye on wellbeing

Changes in appetite or weight can be early signs of other health issues. If we notice them, we’ll let you know, and our registered nurses can follow up.

How we care

How we treat every client

Whatever the service, the person comes first — not the task list.

  • Dignity first

We knock before we enter, ask before we help, and explain what we’re doing. Privacy and modesty are protected during personal care.

  • Their choices, their routine

The care plan starts with the person — how they like their morning, what they eat, what matters to them — and we follow it.

  • Trauma-informed

Safety, trust, and respect come first. We move at the person’s pace and never force care.

  • Culturally safe

We honour each person’s culture, language, faith, and traditions, and work with families and Indigenous elders where they want us to.

  • Families stay in the loop

You’re part of the care team. We share updates, listen to what you notice, and adjust the plan with you.

  • Nurses behind the team

Registered nurses provide clinical oversight, so care workers have backup for medication, wound care, and changes in health.

More questions and answers

Can you follow a special diet?

Yes. We prepare meals to fit dietary needs such as diabetic, low-sodium, or texture-modified diets, following the guidance from the person's health care team.

Will you cook the food my family actually eats?

Absolutely. Meals should be familiar and enjoyable. We ask about favourite dishes, cultural foods, and family recipes and cook with those in mind.
